Bot Construction Questions
How many chassis styles and components are available?
Robot Arena: Design & Destroy uses a unique system of assembly that does not rely on "number of components". You have a set of basic building blocks, such as motors, pistons, framework, weapon tips, etc. that you can assemble in many different ways. The chassis can be designed by drawing an outline and modifying its shape, so there are not 5 or 7 or 100 chassis to choose from, there is instead a technique that allows you to build whatever shape you want, within limits.
Are the components expandable?
Some users have written custom tools to create new components. The 3D Studio Max exporter used during development may be released at a future date.
Can players use custom skins?
Yes. The game has numerous options for customizing bot appearance, and can load custom textures for the chassis.
Gameplay questions
What sort of physics does the game have?
The game uses the Havok physics engine to allow for realistic collisions, bouncing, flipping, etc.
What game modes are there?
Deathmatch (one-on-one), Battle Royal (four robots), Teams (2 vs. 2), TableTop, King of the Hill.
What are the arenas like?
Arenas are more interesting because they don't have to be flat like in RA1. Ramps and other obstacles can be in arenas to make them more fun. Typical hazards are included (saws, hammers, spikes, etc) as well as a few unique ones.
Multiplayer Questions
How many people can play simultaneously in multiplayer mode?
Four can play simultaneously. This is dependent on the speed of the computers playing and the network connection speed. Additional spectators can also join to watch the match. This game requires broadband (cable, DSL, T1) for Internet play. A 56K modem is not recommended.
Does the game have GameSpy support?
Yes. Matchmaking is facilitated by GameSpy so you don't need to type IP addresses.
